How tall are professional diving boards?
Professional diving boards are built to specific heights set by international competition rules. These are the “board” events you’ll hear called 1m springboard and 3m springboard.
It’s also common to see a 5-meter setup at some facilities, but that height is typically associated with platform training or specialty boards rather than the standard springboard events used at top-level competitions. For platforms (which are rigid, not springy), the standard competition heights are 5 meters, 7.5 meters, and 10 meters (about 16.4, 24.6, and 32.8 feet).
What those heights mean in real-world pool design
The “height” refers to the vertical distance from the surface of the water to the top surface of the board (or platform) at the takeoff end. Pool design also accounts for clearance above the board, safe water depth, and the distance from the board to the pool wall. A board that’s the correct height but installed over insufficient depth or with poor clearance isn’t considered safe or competition-ready.
Why professional boards aren’t all the same outside competitions
